ORGANISATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
LAKPESDAM NU Jombang’s organisational philosophy is influenced by a number of underlying religious beliefs, ideals and principles. LAKPESDAM NU Jombang’s organisational philosophy guides our work but it is not explicitly incorporated into our projects, nor do we expect target beneficiaries or partner organisations to acknowledge it. LAKPESDAM NU Jombang appreciates the different religious, social, cultural and political views of its target groups and encourages appreciation of differing perceptions and perspectives.
LAKPESDAM NU Jombang recognises human beings on two different levels, as individuals and as community members. Individually, the human character is composed of unique thoughts, beliefs, habits and traditions which distinguish it from other community members. Collectively, individuals function and interact as community members on a local, national and global scale. LAKPESDAM NU Jombang seeks to address the development of human beings on both these levels.
Human beings as Individuals
The human character, in all its complexity, is dynamic and needs to be provided with tools for self-development. Our thoughts about the individual are derived from the Islamic belief in Kamil. That is the belief that human beings have the capacity to improve, develop and progress to increasing levels of perfection or completion. This is an ongoing process which never stagnates as human beings always have the capacity to improve and engage in self-development. The benefits of individual progression are demonstrated in better relationships with other people, the environment and with oneself.
Human beings as part of a Collective
ur thoughts about the collective are derived from the Islamic concept Mabadi Khaira Ummah. According to this concept, human beings are obliged to play a role in the consolidation of civil society and the advancement of human rights by virtue of being members of a collective. A vibrant democracy supported by a strong civil society where basic human rights are fulfilled, including the right to education, freedom of expression and a reasonable standard of living and health, is an indication that individuals are fulfilling their obligations to fellow community members. It is also an indication that individuals are striving to attain Kamil.
